Websites

The National Alliance on Mental Illness offers support groups for many mental issues and disorders.

Happier.com is a website that offers tools and assessments to track happiness and is associated with Martin Seligman, Ph.D. a leading researcher in positive psychology.

PsychCentral is the largest mental health resource on the Internet. It was founded by John Grohol, Psy.D. (another speaker at this year's SXSWi) and provides information, news, resources, blogs, and support groups for people seeking information.

Daily Strength offers a number of online support groups for many different psychological issues.

MoodGym is an online cognitive behavioral therapy trainer program from the Australian National University.

PatientsLikeMe has a mood community with discussion and tracking tools. They aggregate information for research.

CBT for Insomnia is a website that offers a five-week program for conquering insomnia.

Another site offering online treatment is Myselfhelp.com which offers online programs in depression, sleep improvement, stress management, controlling binge eating, and improving physical activity.

Webtools

If you are trying to cut down on the time you spend on certain websites, Keep Me Out is an online application that can be set up to send you warning alert messages when you visit a site more frequently than you'd like to be doing. Another similar intervention is pageaddict, a Firefox extension which summarizes and restricts your time on certain sites. Getting an analysis of how much time you are wasting can sometimes be an intervention in and of itself. Leechblock is another Firefox extension which does the same thing. Freedom is a web application that disables networking on an Apple computer for up to eight hours at a time.

You can use an online stopwatch or timer to block out periods of time to work without interruptions. If you are just starting to change poor work habits, I recommend 30-40 minute blocks of work time with timed breaks in-between. My recommendation is to get a kitchen timer so that you have a physical object off of your computer to mark the work periods. If you'd like to read more tips on taming procrastination, feel free to check out my blog post on the topic.

If you are a student trying to manage your assignments, Soshiku is a free website to help you track your schoolwork.

Some are using Timer on Twitter to get tweet reminders of things they need to get done.

One attendee of the Core Conversation said that she likes to utilize Awake 2000 to do self-programming of positive affirmations while she sleeps.

If getting to sleep is a concern, Simply Noise is a white noise generator that is free on the internet.
