These books can be used on a self-help basis, or you can also use them while working with a therapist.

Mind Over Mood: Change How You Feel by Changing the Way You Think, by Dennis Greenberger and Christine Padesky (1995).

This book takes a cognitive therapy approach to looking at how your thoughts and beliefs can contribute to anger, anxiety, and depression. It has clear exercises and worksheets that you can use to develop tools to combat feelings that may be overwhelming you.

The Relaxation & Stress Reduction Workbook, Martha Davis, Ph.D., Elizabeth Robbins Eshelman, MSW, Matthew McKay, Ph.D., and Patrick Fanning (2008).

Another workbook full of self-assessment tools and many calming techniques including breathing and relaxation exercises for those experiencing stress and anxiety.

The OCD Workbook: Your Guide to Breaking Free from Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, by Bruce M Hyman and Cherry Pedrick (2005).

Getting Things Done: The Art of Stress-Free Productivity, by David Allen (2002).

Extremely popular among geeks who struggle with procrastination, productivity, and task-management.

Brain Lock: Free Yourself from Obsessive-Compulsive Behavior, by Jeffrey M. Schwartz and Beverly Beyette (1997).

A four-step method for overcoming OCD, along with compelling brain imaging research showing how brain chemistry is altered by implementing the cognitive and behavioral interventions offered by the book.

Driven to Distraction: Recognizing and Coping with Attention Deficit Disorder from Childhood Through Adulthood, by Edward M. Hallowell and John J. Ratey (1995).

Written by two doctors who have ADD and provides case studies of people who have managed to find success with the diagnosis. Also available on audiotape.

Say Good Night to Insomnia: The Six-Week, Drug-Free Program Developed At Harvard Medical School, by Gregg D. Jacobs and Herbert Benson (1999).

Three-step, drug-free plan towards defeating insomnia, using sleep diaries, relaxation, positive thinking, and improved sleep hygiene.

The New Male Sexuality, Bernie Zilbergeld (1999).

Very good book on male sexuality, as the title implies. Provides exercises and information on sexual problems that men commonly encounter.

For Yourself: The Fulfillment of Female Sexuality, Lonnie Barbach, (2000).

While this book is a bit dated, it's a classic book on female sexual response and is very helpful starting point for women who may be experiencing a disconnect from their own sexuality.

Dying of Embarrassment: Help for Social Anxiety & Phobia, by Barbara G. Markway, C. Alec Pollard, Teresa Flynn, Cheryl N. Carmin (1992).

Workbook utilizing homework assignments and cognitive behavioral therapy to specifically target social phobias.
